As they say, in life it’s important to work hard but also to have some fun along the way! It’s also a real benefit when we have the opportunity to share great experiences with our clients. To that end, we recently attended a golf clinic with long-time clients of our firm. The event was hosted by Gary Player in order to benefit his grandson’s fundraising effort for the Eagle Scouts. It was a wonderful time filled with lessons on how to live your life and the value of hard work more so than the details of how to swing the club. Toward the end of the clinic Mr. Player shared with us a wonderful quote by Charles Swindoll that we thought would be worth sharing with our readers:
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.” – Charles R. Swindoll
On a side note, Jeremy has been learning to play the game of golf since last year. On a mild fall day in 2013 he was at the Skippack Golf Club Driving Range hitting balls when an older gentleman a few mats down offered some advice on how to better swing the club. With some hesitance, Jeremy took this man’s advice and made a few improvements. Walking over to thank the man and shake his hand Jeremy came to find out it was the legendary Gary Player. He was there practicing and teaching his young grandson how to swing. Jeremy was able to snap a quick picture with Gary Player before he left. What a great experience to have advice from one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game!
About Gary Player
Gary Player is a South African professional golfer, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of golf. Over his career, Player accumulated nine major championships on the regular tour and six Champions Tour major championship victories, as well as three Senior British Open Championships on the European Senior Tour. At the age of 29, Player won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors, known as the career Grand Slam. Player became only the third golfer in history to win the Career Grand Slam, following Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen. Since then, only Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have won the Career Grand Slam. Player has won 165 tournaments on six continents over six decades and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
